Vancouver’s best patios: Gastown

    1 of 1 2 of 1

Brave the cobblestone and head to Gastown for a patio outing. While the Steam Clock might not be everyone’s cup of tea, Gastown has the best patios for people-watching because it’s frequented by tourists and locals alike.

      Old Spaghetti Factory

This is a controversial opinion, but I will forever maintain that Old Spaghetti Factory is the best bang for your buck anywhere in the city. Cheap eats where it’s all included and you can Factory Size any cocktail for a toonie? And ample outdoor seating with excellent people-watching potential? Sounds like the perfect place for happy hour.

      Chupito

Chupito is a Michelin Guide spot that can only be accessed from the back alley. A fully outdoor cocktail bar, this seasonal sister restaurant to Cantina 189 offers a shot before every meal (Chupito means “shot” in Mexican), adding to the fun of being a hidden gem.

      Local

Seemingly the most considerable patio in Gastown, Local is always booked and busy, especially in the summer. This cobblestone and exposed brick add to the Gastown charm of this Local location, while boasting a menu unique from its other spots—because this is the home of the test kitchen.

      Tacofino

A Vancouver staple, the Tacofino patio is the ideal tucked-away location in Blood Alley. The tiled floors and concrete fixtures add to the rustic simplicity of eating tacos, while being slightly elevated off the ground will make you forget that you’re in a literal alley. Visit soon, though; this location is expected to close in August 2024.

      Water St. Cafe

As I mentioned, some people love the Steam Clock, or if you’re like me and love that other people love the Steam Clock, then get yourself a front-row seat from on the patio of Water St. Cafe. The food is delicious and the people-watching is plentiful at this corner spot.
