Three years in the making, the Harrison River Valley’s new Sasquatch Museum is officially open.

Unveiling a space three times the size of its predecessor, the Harrison Visitor Centre & Sasquatch Museum is set to captivate visitors with its main exhibition, Land of the Giants. This unique multimedia showcase delves into the realm of the region’s indigenous wildlife, as well as the enigmatic Sasquatch. 

Fun fact: the word “sasquatch” is believed to be the anglicized mispronunciation of the Sts’ailes word Sa:sq’ets, meaning “hairy man.” According to the Sts’ailes people, Sa:sq’ets is a spiritual being who can vanish into the spirit realm and act as caretaker of the land.

“Our government is proud to support people who work in the tourism sector and visitors who travel throughout the province,” says Lana Popham, BC Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport, in a release. “Tourism infrastructure projects like the Harrison Visitor Centre & Sasquatch Museum are good for visitors, good for communities, and good for the economy. The Sasquatch Museum is a great example of how spaces like this create a more vibrant British Columbia for everyone.”

The museum also includes a recreated Sts’ailes longhouse, plus Sasquatch carvings, foot castings, artifacts, and research.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on June 21 in conjunction with Harrison’s Sasquatch Days.
