Improv phenomenon Colin Mocherie to return to Arts Club stage

Having famous alumni has its perks: sometimes, they come back to visit.

That’s exactly the case with Arts Club, as comedian Colin Mocherie is now returning to the long-running Vancouver theatre company, where he performed in two productions in the 1980s.

Mocherie, who grew up in Scotland, Montreal, and Vancouver, has links to institutions all over the city: from studying theatre at Langara’s Studio 58, to learning his craft at the TheatreSports League—which became The Improv Centre. (He similarly returned to his improv roots earlier this year for a run of shows at the Granville Island venue.)

Since then, Mocherie has become one of the world’s most famous improvisers. He starred in British and American versions of Whose Line Is It Anyway? for 19 years, appeared in more Canadian ads than anyone can accurately recall, and has made cameos in a dizzying number of films and shows.

More recently, he competed in LOL: Last One Laughing Canada, and had a bit part in smash-hit sports romp Ted Lasso

Back when he first graced the Arts Club stage, Mocherie would have performed at its old venue: a converted gospel hall on Seymour Street. This time around, he’s treading the boards at the Stanley Industrial Theatre for two nights in July.
