Under the dedicated efforts of the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, First Creek, a long-buried creek underneath Tatlow Park in Kits, has been restored. This is part of the Board's ongoing commitment to reverse the effects of urban decay and colonialism, and the creek is now open to public access.

The stream initially flowed north to where West 20th Avenue currently resides, running through both Tatlow and Volunteer Park before entering English Bay. It was a culturally significant place for the original people of the area, the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) nations.

The restoration of this area is not only culturally significant but also reintroduces the area's animal and plant inhabitants.

"Vancouver’s relationship with its rivers, creeks and waterways has been shaped over centuries,” said Park Board Chair Brennan Bastyovanszky in a release. “The daylighting of Tatlow Creek helps reforge our relationship with the city's natural surroundings and marks an important milestone in our commitment to building a green rainwater infrastructure.”
