Salt Tasting Room to offer free tapas in Vancouver's Gastown

They're calling it the "San Sebastián Experiment".

Starting September 8 and running until October 11, Gastown's Salt Tasting Room will be offering free tapas when customers order a glass of wine, beer, or sherry from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The name evokes the pintxos bars of San Sebastián, Spain, where snacks are traditionally offered free with drinks.

Salt has partnered with Bosa Foods, which is importing Spanish goodies such as olives, white anchovies, and aged manchego cheese.

These items, plus slices of bone-in serrano ham, salchichon iberico and chorizo sausages, and marinated calamari rings, make up some of the "experiemental" offerings.

Salt's drink menu offers over a dozen Spanish sherries by the glass.

My family comes from San Sebastian and although they are the top place in the world to eat Pintos, they aren't traditionally free. You must pay for any pintxo along with your drink.

I will definitely check them out and tell all of my friends. Thanks for the heads up!

I was in San Sebastián last weekend, and it's pintxos heaven! It's like a foody dream land and it's far from FREE!
