Former police officer Fred Harding joins Vancouver mayoral race

      There’s a new contender for mayor of Vancouver.

      His name is Fred Harding, and he’s going to lead the Vancouver 1st party in the October 20 municipal election.

      Harding is a former police officer.

      According to his LinkedIn profile, Harding served with the West Vancouver Police Department from February 1999 to July 2017.

      His title with the police department was described as “Detective: Businessman”.

      Harding was also previously a detective with the Metropolitan Police Service of London, from 1984 to 1997.

      Harding is now a businessman.

      His LinkedIn profile listed him as president and CEO of Harding Global Consultants Ltd (HGC).

      “Harding Global is comfortable guiding companies into the boardrooms of corporate China and Korea,” according to the account.

      HGC was described as a "Vancouver based consulting company looking to bridge the business gap between North America and Asia".

      "HGC negotiated a multi-million dollar contract, for a BC Client and a China-wide distribution deal. HGC has represented clients in business consultation with some of Asia's biggest companies. HGC is currently engaged in negotiations on EPC projects in the Middle East," according to Harding's online profile.

      It also stated that Harding “keeps homes in Asia and Canada”.

      “HGC has access to an extensive network of Asian businesses seeking legitimate partners for growth,” the profile noted.

      In addition to HGC, Harding is also listed as president and CEO of 2 Narrows Production Ltd, a West Vancouver-based company.

      “Fred Harding is the proud recipient of commendations from the Commissioner of the London Metropolitan Police, The Commissioner of the Canadian RCMP, Chief Constables Commendation and the recipient of British Columbia’s highest award for valour. In addition, Fred secured a high-level security clearance in the UK for national security work,” according to his profile.

      Vancouver 1st fielded without success candidates for council, park board, and school board in 2014. 

      Harding and Vancouver 1st will launch their campaign on Sunday (August 12) at the Robson Square Theatre (800 Robson Street) starting at 3 p.m.
