Make It Vancouver Tip Sheet: new offerings include handmade camping chairs and modern macrame
This year’s Make It Vancouver, celebrating its 10th anniversary, is launching a new Incubator section for aspiring “Makies” who are new to the fair and have been in business for less than five years. We asked Make It founder Jenna Her-but to pick a few to look out for.
Chósta Woodwork
For those who have ended up chucking their cheap big-box-store camping chair: this local line specializes in a hand-built, wood-frame version (shown here), complete with a shoulder strap and a canvas back printed with a topographic map of the Pacific Northwest.
Revol Girl Lingerie
Period-proof underwear—you heard right. Using a combination of three fabrics, these Vancouver-made styles stave off leaking and look vintage-cool-contemporary, with mesh inserts, at the same time. The line also sells a range of sexy mesh-insert bras to match—all in black.
Madeleine Reay Jewelry
High-design gold and silver jewellery, all made in Vancouver, shows that sculptural can be subtle and sophisticated. Check out the coiling serpentine Athena ring.
Honey & Co. Macrame
Macramé even better than Mom used to make it, from teeny fibre-art cinnamon-stick ornaments to plant hangers and wall hangings.
