On July 5 last year, thieves smashed the front window of Cardero Café in Vancouver.

Cash and merchandise were stolen from the West End coffee shop.

CityNews Vancouver reported a week later that the break-in was the third incident since Cardero Café opened at 1105 Davie Street in July 2020.

The report noted that the Vancouver Police Department confirmed having responded to the café three times since November of that year.

Owner Sonia Zebadua said in the report that the three incidents have cost her between $10,000 and $12,000.

She also fears for the safety of her employees.

“I’m demotivated, because now you have to do all the process for the insurance again and see if it’s even worth it, because the claim is $1,000. I wouldn’t even recommend to anybody to put a business here,” Zebadua said.

The most recent break-in had Zebadua and her partner thinking of selling the business.

A listing on the Restaurant Business Broker site indicates that the business of Cardero Café at 1105 Davie Street is available for sale.

“This small cafe is ready for its next operator,” the listing notes.

The asking price is $165,000.

The site measures 1,200 square feet, and the lease is $2,500 per month.

The Davie Street site is the second location of Cardero Café, which originally started serving Latin American coffee and food at 1016 Cardero Street.

The first shop is often referred to as Cardero Bottega.

“We can definitely say we make the best coffee in Vancouver, and it’s all made from locally roasted Colombian coffee beans,” the café states on its website.

The business also offers Latin American groceries.
