With so many artisan markets, craft fairs, and pop-up shops happening around town over the next month, Vancouverites have a wealth of options for gifts—ones that are one-of-a-kind, handmade, and come with a heartwarming story.

Circle Craft Christmas Market

From November 8 to 12 at the Vancouver Convention Centre’s West building (999 Canada Place)

Largely considered the grand-daddy of holiday fairs, the Circle Craft Christmas Market is back for its 44th iteration this season. More than 300 artisans from across Canada—over 50 of them new to the event—will be onsite with all sorts of handmade delights, from hand-blown glassware and souvenir pillows to funky jewellery and ecofriendly apparel. Plus, find an assortment of edible treats and spirits in the Gourmet Alley; sit front-row in a VCC-produced fashion show; and learn the art of macramé with a DIY class conducted by Canadian fibre artist Sola Fiedler.

Winter Treasures Artisan Sale

From November 9 to December 21 at Port Moody Arts Centre (2425 St. John’s Street, Port Moody)

This long-running holiday market sells handmade art, décor, and other items lovingly crafted by local makers. Located in the same building is the Blackberry Gift Shop + Artist Co-op’s 21st annual Christmas Marketplace, where you’ll find jewellery, paintings, pottery, and more.

As its name suggests, the East Exchange spotlights maker from the city’s East Side, including Oona Clothing Company, the Rad Scientist, and more. Expect seasonal décor, giftable oddities, cannabis-infused topicals, and more.

East Van Garage Sale

November 12 and 26 at the Astoria Pub (769 East Hastings Street)

A biweekly market, the East Van Garage Sale combines cheap deals with the next best thing: cheap booze. Browse vintage clothing, jewellery, records, and other one-off knickknacks and then refuel with $4.50 and what promises to be very inexpensive cans of beer.

November 12 at the Croatian Cultural Centre (3250 Commercial Drive)

Hunters and diggers will find much to love at the 21st Century Flea Market, where more than 175 vendors will be hawking retro furnishings, books, vintage garments, records, fine china, collectible sporting items, and more—all at bargain prices. A representative from the Canadian Personal Property Appraisers Group will also be on hand to appraise goods on a first come, first served basis spy pi cam verify if that Dior clutch—and other gems—you found at the thrift are the real deal.

Hosted by the Hand-picked Vintage Market, this seasonal pop-up will include artisans and small-business owners from around the Fraser Valley offering up goods for the closet, vanity, home, and pantry. Pre-loved Clothing & Artisan Pop-Up Market

November 12 at Beaumont Studios (316 West 5th Avenue)

Hosted by the Bazaar Closet, this ecofriendly market will feature racks of vintage and secondhand wears—all starting at a mere buck—from brands like Givenchy, Rag & Bone, and hometown favourite Aritzia, plus locally produced bling by artists Schmall Creative, Chakraas Jewels, and more. Organizers will also be collecting clothing and monetary donations for the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre onsite.

Poppy Barley Pop-Up

From November 15 to 18 at Little Mountain Shop (4386 Main Street)

After a month-long appearance at Gastown’s now shuttered Nicole Bridger (R.I.P.) this summer, ethical footwear company Poppy Barley returns to Vancouver for another pop-up—this time on Main Street. Shoppers can expect to see a selection of the Edmonton-based brand’s leather boots, Oxfords, and loafers for men and women, plus its winter collection, which includes leopard-print mules and comfy, memory-foam pumps. It’s a rare chance to try the online-first label’s shoes before you buy.

Christmas at Hycroft

An annual tradition, Shaughnessy’s Hycroft Manor will be transformed into a winter wonderland for four days this month, where 25-plus artisans will be hawking all sorts of giftable goods. The three-level mansion will be decked out in holly, tinsel, and stockings, complete with a visit from Santa and his helpful elves. Small bites and live entertainment will also be on hand throughout.

Local arts-and-music centre Place des Arts is once again expanding its in-house artisan shop to host an annual Christmas Boutique. In addition to the Coquitlam-based spot’s year-round stock of handcrafted ceramics and jewellery, you’ll find all sorts of giftable treats fit for stockings and under the tree. Sales support the area’s artists and the nonprofit’s events and programming.

November 17 and 18 at West Coast Railway Heritage Park (39645 Government Road, Squamish)

Over 100 vendors will convene in Squamish for the annual Refresh Market, where you’ll dicover an expertly curated selection of quality homewares, jewellery, vintage apparel, and more. Among the available items will be beaded wrap bracelets by Bluefish Bohemian; woven wall hangings by Saige and Skye; and laser-cut earrings and cufflinks by Cabin + Cub. East Van’s 34th annual Britannia Christmas Craft Fair is back for three days this year, where you can shop an assortment of locally produced art, homewares, textiles, and other giftable knickknacks in support of programming for inner-city kids. Celebrating a decade in operation this year, the West Coast Christmas Show & Artisan Marketplace will boast over 200 vendors—many of them artisans—offering a range of gifts, holiday décor, and seasonal treats. Vancouver’s popular Eastside Flea typically runs every other weekend, but it’s amping up its schedule in anticipation of the most wonderful time of the year. Beginning mid-November, you can browse over 50 vendors stationed on Main Street every weekend, plus food trucks, live music, and artisan showrooms that will be open for curious shoppers. An annual tradition, Crofton House School opens its doors to the public this month for a day of festive shopping, DIYing, and munching. Proceeds go toward KidSafe, a local nonprofit that supports vulnerable inner-city youth over the holidays.

Featuring a lineup of over 100 vendors, this is one of the North Shore’s largest seasonal craft markets. Visit during one of two weekends and you’ll be able to shop upcycled bags from Itchyichi, vintage planters from succulent + air, sketchbooks and journals from Bitter Melon Bindery, and more. Salvaged wood furnishings, locally produced spirits, and small-batch jams are among the other products that will be on display. A raffle will support Backpack Buddies, a Vancouver-based nonprofit that delivers food to children in need.

“All handmade, all the time” is the m.o. at Tswassen’s Krafted Market, where you’ll discover everything from children’s apparel and Christmas décor to decorative crochet and vegan soy candles for the holidays. In total, more than 35 local makers will be present, as well as an onsite photography studio where you can snap a festive family portrait. An old-fashioned carousel, walk-in Christmas tree, and mugs of mulled Glühwein may be the big draws at the Vancouver Christmas Market, but the seasonal fete also boasts over 75 food and gift huts that give you a chance to cross a few names off your list. Hailing from countries such as Germany, Austria, and France, this year’s vendors include Nepal Winter Wear, which makes knit hats, mittens, and coats; Provence en Couleur, producer of handcrafted kitchenware; and EcoFair Trading, which offers items such as woven baskets and hand-dipped candles, all sustainably made around the world.

StoryTold Pop-Up Shop

The second annual StoryTold pop-up will share the charm, tales, and character in its artisans’ products that aren’t often found in mass-produced items. Deer Lake Craft Festival

A curated lineup of 60-plus artisans awaits at the Deer Lake Craft Festival, where glass blowers, sculptors, potters, and more will have works on full display. Seasonal baked goods are also a draw: think Christmas cakes, jellies, jams, and more, plus live entertainment, a virtual-reality experience (yes, really!), and a cookie-decorating station for the tots. Taking place for the fifth year, the Charity Craft Fair carries an assortment of handcrafted delights from local charities, small businesses, and makers with 100 percent of proceeds going toward this season’s designated nonprofit, the B.C. Fire Fighters Burn Fund. Shop upcycled greeting cards from Coast Cards, adorable pet dishes by Yvonne Ceramics, and ecofriendly food wraps and bags by textile designer Alisa Yao.

East Van artisans are the focus at the Strathcona Winter Craft Fair, which returns for its seventh iteration this year. A fundraiser for local artist and music venue Western Front, Toque is consistently one of the season’s most anticipated and well curated craft fairs. Featuring over 25 designers, potters, metalsmiths, and more, this year’s iteration features returning faves like Maggie Boyd Ceramics, Erin Templeton, and Woodlot, plus newcomers Collage Collage, New Look, and Petit Villains, who will be offering up calendars, DIY kit, children’s wear, and other delights. After a brief hiatus, object + handmade returns to Vancouver with an inspired lineup of artists from around North America in tow. The tightly edited market will include names like Evelyn Alarcon, a New Mexico–based potter who produces whimsical bowls, planters, and tumblers; Artifact Skin Co., a Hamilton-born line of luxe natural skincare; and Vancouver’s own Ana Isabel Textiles, who crafts beautifully delicate fine-silk wall hangings.

One of the biggest—and most beloved—craft markets in the Lower Mainland, Make It! regularly features items from 250-plus “makies” in a laidback and decidedly un-Christmassy environment. Discover hand-stitched leather bags from DiG Leather Co., trippy, cat-themed artwork by Andrea Hooge, bamboo-charcoal soap from Beauty Secrets of Japan, and more. Refuel with beer and lunch from an impressive lineup of food trucks. A live auction will benefit the Union Gospel Mission.

Barter Design Co. is hosting its first pop-up shop in Vancouver this holiday season, where you’ll find an assortment of B.C.–made homewares, furnishings, and accessories. The Sunshine Coast–based biz collaborates with artists and craftspeople from around the province to produce quality objects like clay bowls and beeswax candles while putting money in these creatives’ pockets. The first 50 shoppers will nab a free sharing bowl from the Barter collection.

Crafty Affaire Market

December 16 at Croatian Cultural Centre (3250 Commercial Drive)

Crafty Affaire’s Vancouver iteration features an impressive 102 established and emerging vendors, including Odd Society Spirits and Green Envy Cosmetics. Modern stained-glass accessories, greeting cards, wooden bowties, and concrete planters are only a handful of the things you can expect to bring home. Antiques and art and science and nature will collide at This Monkey’s Gone to Heaven’s first annual pop-up shop, where you can peruse a wacky selection of curios like lucky rabbit’s feet, voodoo dolls, stuffed mice, and more. The local shop will also welcome vendors such as Mush Appreciated and Jaik Puppyteeth, plus a photo booth, bar, tarot readings, and other activities. In the New Year, This Monkey will relocate from its Riley Park digs to this Hastings-Sunrise space.
