      As sad as we are to see summer go, there is plenty to be enthused about when it comes to the fall programming that is in store for us. 

      From corn mazes to new hobbies, handmade markets to delicious treats, the new season is being celebrated in a big way in this weekend’s events. 

      FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22

      Learn to Weave Cloth (beginners)

      Learn how to weave cloth on a simple rigid heddle loom in this weaving workshop for beginners.

      Firedamp

      Firedamp is a new 20-minute octophonic composition by Alexi Baris, developed as part of Western Front’s artists-in-residence program, and as a parallel event to Rachelle Sawatsky’s solo exhibition Vitals.

      Richmond Culture Days 2023

      First Pick Handmade

      The annual fall First Pick Handmade returns to transform Heritage Hall into a 3,300-square-foot pop-up sustainable shopping event.

      Shipyards Festival

      This free one-day event features multiple stages with live music, a site-wide beer garden, an artisan market, food trucks, and more.

      Lovro Peretić

      Croatian guitarist Lovro Peretić will be performing at Pyatt Hall as part of the Vancouver Classic Guitar Society’s 2023/20224 series. The 28-year-old has won over 30 international guitar competitions.

      Mushtari Begum Festival

      The 12th annual Mushtari Begum Festival celebrates Indian classical music and dance, and features New West’s Kathak/Harmonium maestra Amika Kushwaha.

      Swapnaa Tamhane: No Surface is Neutral

      Surrey Art Gallery has just announced the solo exhibition Swapnaa Tamhane: No Surface is Neutral, which is set to open on September 23. There will be a conversation between artist Swapnaa Tamhane, gallery curator Jordan Strom, and associate curator of adult programs Sameena Siddiqui at 6:30pm that day. The exhibition will be on display until November 26.

      2023 Interior Design Show Vancouver Consumer Day

      Interior Design Show Vancouver Consumer Day will feature keynote speeches from industry leaders including Lynda Reeves, Alykhan Velji, Emma Reddington, Ryan Donohoe, and Kyla Bidgood. The full show runs from September 21 to 24 and showcases all things design.

      2nd Annual South Rock Art Tour

      Over 30 artists will be showcasing their work across 19 separate locations across South Surrey and White Rock for the second-annual South Rock Art Tour.

      Queens of Soul

      The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra will be celebrating the queens of soul music, including Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Nina Simone, Whitney Houston, Jennifer Hudson, Amy Winehouse, Alicia Keys, and Adele.

      Maan Farms in Abbotsford is kicking off its celebration of fall this weekend with its forest pumpkin patch, terrifying corn maze, barnyard adventureland, and a whole lot of other fall favourites.

      The newest album from Grinch Simpson, NO VACANCY, releases on September 24, blending post punk, garage rock, and indie rock. The band is performing at Green Auto to celebrate the album release.
