Comedian Chris Rock has spoken publicly about the slap seen around the world.

In a show in Phoenix on August 28, Rock said that Will Smith's smack on his face during the Oscars hurt him.

"He's bigger than me," Rock said, according to azcentral.com "The state of Nevada would not sanction a fight between me and Will Smith."

Rock also disclosed in his show that he turned down an invitation to host the 2023 Oscars, likening it to asking Nicole Brown Simpson to "go back to the restaurant".

Simpson was murdered in 1994 after a server in a restaurant, Ron Goldman, visited her home to return her mother's glasses. Goldman was also murdered.

Rock's comment about the killing of Simpson has sparked a backlash on social media from those who see no humour in joking about the double murder.
