Chilliwack male teen arrested after violent robbery of senior in Abbotsford

      An Abbotsford senior sustained serious injuries after a male teenager assaulted and robbed him.

      Around 10 a.m. on November 24, police responded a report about a young male seen hitting and robbing an elderly man near 33555 South Fraser Way in Abbotsford.

      Bystanders, who witnessed the assault, tailed after the suspect as he fled the area.

      The suspect ran into traffic on South Fraser Way. Although a passing vehicle collided with him, he managed to continue fleeing the scene.

      Witnesses reported seeing him run into a townhouse complex, over a fence, and into a ravine north of Trinity Street in Downtown Abbotsford.

      Officers found the suspect hiding in the bushes in the ravine and arrested him.

      The elderly victim received several injuries from the assault, including broken teeth and facial lacerations.

      The Abbotsford Police Department identified the suspect as 19-year-old Brandon William Janveaux of Chilliwack, who is in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on November 27.
