Vancouver police are searching for a man who allegedly doused diners at a popular downtown eatery with pepper spray.

Global News reported that the attack occurred today (July 19) around 10:30 a.m. at the Elbow Room Café at 560 Davie Street, situated between Yaletown and the West End across from Emery Barnes Park.

After releasing pepper spray in the room, the suspect fled on foot.

Between 10 to 15 people had to be treated by first responders after the attack.

A 34-year-old brunch spot, the LGBT neighbourhood spot is known for its humorously sarcastic and campy servers and its all-day breakfasts.

It was launched by husbands Patrick Savoie and Brian Searle in 1983, and was originally located at 720 Jervis Street.

Elbow Room Café: The Musical, which adapted the story of the restaurant for the stage, debuted at the York Theatre in March.
