Maple Ridge resident Jordan McIldoon among those killed in Las Vegas shooting spree

      The parents of a 23-year-old Maple Ridge man are in mourning following a massacre last night in Las Vegas.

      Jordan McIldoon was attending the Route 91 Harvest country music festival there when a gunman started firing on the crowd from the 32nd storey of the Mandalay Bay hotel.

      His parents, Al and Angela McIldoon, have confirmed to CBC News that their son was among the more than 50 who were killed. He was their only child.

      A resident of Spring Valley, Nevada, Heather Gooze, wrote on Facebook that McIldoon died in her arms. His parents have since released a statement in memory of their son, in which they call him "a compassionate young man who lived a life full of adventures."

      "We choose to focus on love over hatred and are moving forward knowing that Jordan was so incredibly loved by many," they wrote. "His was a life well lived. He was our only child and no words can describe our pain in losing him."

      Edmonton's Jessica Klymchuk was also killed in the shooting. Klymchuk was a single mother of four who was visiting Las Vegas with her fiancé.

      Calla Medig, a resident of Edmonton, and Tara Roe, originally from Brandon, Manitoba, have been confirmed as victims of the attack as well. Medig, who attended the Route 91 Harvest festival yearly, is being remembered by her friends, family, and colleagues as "warm-hearted" and a "bright and amazing person". 

      Roe, who lived in Okotoks, Alberta, was an educational assistant and mother of two. She's described by her aunt as a "wonderful mother".

      Meanwhile, the son of former Victoria TV news anchor Hudson Mack was wounded.

      Mack sent out a tweet asking people to offer a prayer for the victims, who including Sheldon Mack.

      Two women from Manitoba, Jody Ansell and Jan Lambourne, were taken to hospital after being hit by gunfire during the shooting. According to CBC News, Lambourne was shot in the stomach and is scheduled for surgery today. Ansell had been scheduled to fly back to Vancouver for work today but will instead return to Stonewall, Manitoba.

      According to reports, more than 500 people were injured in the attack.

      The killer, 64-year-old Nevada resident Stephen Paddock, was found dead in his hotel room by police officers.
