Tonight, he and his wife Melania Trump have tested positive for COVID-19.

They are both well and plan to remain in convalescence in the White House.

The Trumps were in close proximity to an aide, Hope Hicks, who recently tested positive.

Trump is not the first world leader to come down with the coronavirus.

British prime minister Boris Johnson and Brazilian president Jair Bolonsaro have both also contracted the virus.

Trump has been speaking at rallies where many people have stood in the audience in close proximity without masks.

In addition, Melania Trump spoke at the Republican National Convention from the Rose Garden in the White House, where most of the Trumps' supporters were not wearing masks.

And today, Trump attended a fundraising event.

Trump is 74 years old and overweight. These comorbidities elevate his risk for health complications.

More than 200,000 Americans have died from COVID-19 and more than seven million Americans have tested positive.
