Metro Vancouver transit users got some good news today.

Translink has just announced that, as of September 6, it will increase service by bringing back 10-minute SeaBus service during rush hours and 15-minute service in the early mornings, and by adding back Train 4 to the West Coast Express in the mornings and afternoons (6:55 a.m. from Mission to Waterfront Station, and 5:30 p.m. from Waterfront Station to Mission).

The company is also adding service on routes serving post-secondary institutions as students return to in-person learning, with Route 143 (serving SFU) and Route 44 (serving UBC) being reinstated. Service is also being increased on routes 9, 116, 130, 145, 222, 245, and 255, serving multiple post-secondary institutions.

The service changes are part of Translink and Destination Vancouver's Reconnect Campaign, which helps Lower Mainland residents rediscover the region’s attractions and sightseeing activities.

“We are listening to our customers," claims Translink CEO Kevin Quinn in a news release. "The recently launched partnership with Transit app is another example of how we are responding. This tool allows customers to check how full buses are ahead of time and plan their trip accordingly. We want to provide customers with the service and data they need to make informed transportation choices as they return to their routines.”

As well as the additional service hours, TransLink is boosting its fleet with 25 double-decker buses, which will be introduced on Route 340 (between Scottsdale and 22nd St. SkyTrain Station) later in the fall.
