The federal New Democrats are drawing attention to dozens of real-estate transactions involving a Liberal candidate in Vancouver Granville.

In a news release, the NDP said that 21 of those deals by Taleeb Noormohamed—involving the purchase and sale of homes—would be subject to the Liberal Party of Canada's proposed flipping tax.

The party also cited B.C. Assessment records showing that Noormohamed bought and sold 41 properties in total since 2005, generating a $4.9-milllion return.

Over the past six years, Noormohamed's property sales generated nearly $3.7 million more than what he paid for the homes.

In a statement issued this morning, Noormohamed said that he is "fully committed to making housing more affordable across Canada, and right here at home in Vancouver Granville".

"Last week, Prime Minister Trudeau announced the most ambitious plan of any party to make housing more affordable—and I will work hard to make that plan a reality," Noormohamed said. "While I have had business activities improving homes, I have been consistent in my support for measures to make housing more affordable, and as the MP for Vancouver Granville, it will remain a priority."

The NDP news release came in the wake of a story by News 1130's Martin MacMahon. In one of his earlier reports about four of Noormohamed's flipped properties, McMahon relied on data collected by former Vancouver council candidate Rohana Rezel.

Most of the transactions occurred in Vancouver, though there were also sales in North Vancouver and West Vancouver. Noormohamed has not broken any laws by buying and selling homes.

Noormohamed is seeking the seat vacated by Jody Wilson-Raybould, who is not seeking reelection.

In addition to Noormohamed, the confirmed candidates in Vancouver Granville are Conservative Kailin Che, New Democrat Anjali Appadurai, and Damian Jewett of the People's Party of Canada. Imtiaz Popat has announced that he hopes to run for the Greens in Vancouver Granville.
