Sometimes one gets to hear about houses with elevators.

These are huge, custom-build homes worth several millions of dollars.

These properties are likely found on the posh west side of Vancouver or in the wealthy neighbourhoods on the North Shore.

But why can’t average-sized single-family residences have their own elevators too?

In fact, a half-duplex in East Vancouver got one, and the two-storey home recently sold above its asking price.

On December 2, 2020, Stilhavn Real Estate Services listed 220 East 16^th Avenue for $1,699,000.

The listing for the three-bedroom, two-bath half-duplex boasted of “stunning renovation by award winning Shakespe[a]re Homes”.

“This is not your ordinary property,” the listing went, citing high-end furnishings, wine fridge, other features, and in capital letters, “ELEVATOR (No KIDDING!)”.

The 1,594-square-foot half-duplex sold after seven days on December 9.

A buyer picked up the property for $1,805,000, or $106,000 on top of the listing price.

Real-estate site fisherly.com tracked the transaction.

According to B.C. Assessment, property’s 2020 value as of July 1, 2019 totals $1,350,000.

The property east of Main Street last sold on June 7, 2019 for $1,499,000.
