Last night, a late-night comedian got deadly serious about the presidential election.

Stephen Colbert declared that Donald Trump "tried to poison American democracy".

      Then, surprisingly, he teared up.

This came shortly after Trump claimed in a White House briefing that if the legal votes were counted, he had "easily" won.

But with "illegal votes", the Democrats could "steal the election".

Colbert accused Trump of being a "fascist".

Then Colbert called on senior Republicans to reject what Trump was saying.

"This is the time to get off the Trump train. 'Cause he just told you where the train is going and it's not a passenger train," Colbert insisted. "And he'll load you on it some day too."

Stephen Colbert's monologue wasn't particularly funny on November 5.
