It didn't take long for tips to start coming in after Vancouver police released video on Saturday (August 27) of a violent assault.

The images from a closed-circuit camera show a female dumping a drink on a man as he exited a convenience store on Commercial Drive on July 31.

Three males then started punching and kicking the man before leaving him on the ground writhing in pain.

“Investigators began to receive tips from the public as soon as the video was released, including from a family member of one of the suspects, who has been identified as a young person,” Const. Jason Doucette said in a news release. “We are confident that all of the suspects have been identified and will be held accountable for their role in the attack.”

Police initially identified the suspects as being in their 20s, though they looked like they could be younger in the video.

Doucette did not reveal in the news release if they are considered minors under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, which applies to those between 12 and 17 years of age.

Under the act, young offenders under the age of 18 years of age cannot be publicly identified unless they are transferred to adult court.

The victim was a 42-year-old man.

On the weekend, the VPD said that the attack was being investigated as a hate crime.
