Lucille’s West Side quietly opens in the former Heirloom location

The infamous owner of South Granville’s Heirloom restaurant appears to have quietly opened a new concept in the same location.

Lucille’s West Side—which is hardly on the west side, but hey—occupies the space formerly housed by the troubled once-vegetarian restaurant.

Heirloom shut its doors earlier this year, taking to its website to blame someone named Deborah for the whole thing. (Since we initially covered Deborah-Gate in this story, the website copy—“Thanks a lot, Deborah”—has been updated to include, “You lil’ rascal!” Oof.) Things first went off the rails for Heirloom when it started serving meat, which alienated many of its devoted plant-based diners. And if that wasn’t enough to make folks stop eating there, the restaurant’s social media response of calling its critics “vegan Nazis” and “douches” certainly did.

Owner Gus Greer promised a return to the dining scene with a new restaurant following Heirloom’s closure, and it seems like he’s delivered on that. The Heirloom Instagram account has been wiped clean, save for only one post: a bright pink-and-red image of a martini glass with the caption, “Find the classics you’ve been missing @lucilleswestside.” Comments have been turned off.

Not much is known about the menu, but Lucille’s is currently offering a $29 brunch deal that gets you one dish (choice of vegan pancakes, classic breakfast, a bacon Benedict, or something called the Señorita’s Breakfast), one drink (a mimosa, Aperol spritz, or espresso martini), and coffee or tea.

The restaurant’s Instagram page and website showcase images of pin-up girls in martini glasses and old Hollywood glamour—because certain things never go out of style. Like, you know, being nice to your customers.
