Summer Movie Nights return to downtown Vancouver

While the warmer weather has many locals escaping to one of our many surrounding trails or mountains, there’s plenty to do right here in Vancouver for those looking for something outside that isn’t necessarily “outdoorsy.”

For eight Thursdays between July and August, the Vancouver Art Gallery’s North Plaza is transformed into a community outdoor theatre. Back for another year, Summer Movie Nights features films played on a giant inflatable screen as the sun goes down, making this an ideal outing with friends or family or a hot date. Before each screening, guests can enjoy interactive activations such as performances, mini golf, and themed nights.

Noteworthy screenings include Barbie for opening night (July 4), where guests are encouraged to wear Barbie-themed fits. Local fitness studio Pop Queen Cardio will be onsite to host a workshop of the film’s memorable dance sequence, and drag artist Synthia Kiss will perform the choreography live during the film.

During the screening of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (July 18), M&Ms will be on location with a branded concession stand and a chance to win branded merch. And in conjunction with the kickoff of Vancouver Pride, Public Disco will present an all-ages party the night of Mamma Mia! (August 1).

The complete list of screenings is as follows:

      • July 4 - Barbie
      • July 11 - The Devil Wears Prada
      • July 18 - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
      • July 25 - The Princess Bride
      • August 1 - Mamma Mia!
      • August 8 - Knives Out
      • August 15 - Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
